Yardlings Get Blanks For Houses Tomorrow

Freshman Applicants Have 50-50 Chance

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tomorrow is D-day for the thousand odd Yardlings hoping to enter Houses next year. The starting gun for the annual rush will be sounded by Dean Watson's office as House application blanks are mailed to all students still in dormitories.

Dean Watson warned that blanks must be filed on or before April 8, and preferably before spring recess. Most of the men graduating in 1950 will got in Houses, he added, but only half of the Freshman class can expect immediate accommodations. Final assignments will be tabulated and sent out around May 15.

List of Questions

Questions on the forms are designed to give House secretaries with whom the final selection remains, the most pertinent information possible about applicants. The list includes first and second choice of Houses, reasons for this choice, desired price range, class standing, outside activities, and proposed field of concentration.

"All hope is not lost," Dean Watson explained, "for the Freshman who is not accepted this term. Much shrinkage occurs between now and next September, and many new openings are found." If everyone wants a Cadillac, he philosophized, some of the smarter people will try for another car and at least get something. The same holds true, he pointed out, when trying for the Houses.

The schedule for advisory conferences of House staffs will be printed in Monday's CRIMSON.
