‘The Architect of the Whole Plan’: Harvard Law Graduate Ken Chesebro’s Path to Jan. 6
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
In yesterday's letter to the editor column I was presented with the rather unpleasant alternative of either "eating crow," as our verbose Law School intellectual, Mr. Bracken, puts it, or else answering some of his emotional "reasoning." I choose the latter alternative.
First, Mr. Bracken spoke of the gratitude we owe to our "fearless, clear-headed leaders who call a spade a spade and recognize Communism for the hideous conspiracy it is." I was not quite sure who he was referring to, but I assume he means the Republican majority in the Congress. It is interesting to note that the Senate Republicans split 24-23 on the most important tool of aid to Europe, ERP, and it was the Democratic minority that brought about passage of the legislation. Or, perhaps Mr. Bracken is referring to the magnificent stand the Southern Democrats are making to preserve that grand old southern custom of lynching and white supremacy. Or, maybe Mr. Bracken is referring to the Justice Department, which just sent that most democratic ultimatum to the Italian voters: "go communist and be barred forever from the United States."
Secondly, Mr. Bracken told us how we should be glad to have a Thomas committee which "protects our civil liberties." I assume he was speaking of the recent smear of Karl T. Compton before they presented any valid evidence, and then denied him the opportunity to appear in his own defense. I think that well-informed Mr. Bracken would call that "100% Americanism in action." Stewart D. Kranz '49.
