Crimson booters, currently on the upgrade as the result of Saturday's 2 to 1 victory over Army, run up against the mythical national soccer champions this afternoon when they play the University of Connecticut at Storrs.
Connecticut has a habit of turning out fine soccer squads; last year's was champion of the New England League, which is generally recognized as the toughest soccer league in the country. This year, although several of its top stars are gone, Connecticut by comparative scores is about as good as Cornell and Amherst--the two colleges which have boaten the Crimson.
Another Army Game?
But Harvard coach Bruce Munro is hoping his team will be functioning at least as well as it did Saturday in the Army game. Then, he says, his charges played one period of "great soccer" and protected its lead the rest of the way.
The same forward line that showed so well against the Cadets will again be in operation today. Ted Wolf, despite his taped-up left side, will be at center forward; he'll be fianked by Jim Johnson and Charlie Weiss on the left and by Ben Goldstein and Jon Spivak on the right.
Berger Out
One injury, however, didn't work out so well as Wolf's yesterday. Halfback Lotsi Berger tried out his injured right knee and aggravated it. He'll definitely be out today.
The freshmen, who also play Connecticut today, yesterday elected Winthrop Knowlton '53 of Straus Hall and Syosset, N. Y., captain.
The Yardlings will be without the services of high-scoring forward Pete Baker, but they'll try to make it four in a row tomorrow when they accompany the varsity to Storrs to take on the Connecticut freshmen.
