Rally Starts Yale Weekend

Rally marchers will stomp tonight for the last time this year when "a different kind of parade" hits the traditional pre-Yale route to Dillon Field House.

Head cheerleader Jerry N. Liebman '50 has promised "something entirely new" on the steps of Dillon after the rally leaves University Hall at 7:15 p.m. and snakes down Mt. Auburn Street, Memorial Drive, and Anderson Bridge to Soldiers Field.

Liebman is still waiting for a reply from Yale coach Herman Hickman, whom he invited by telegram to speak tonight. Hickman couldn't be reached for comment yesterday, but Eli football manager Robert McLean said he doubted if the coach would attend.

Valpey Absent

Varsity coach Art Valpey won't speak tonight because of a press dinner, and neither will any players but backfield coach Steve Sebo will take their place. Liebman has also scheduled juggling by Hugh Shepley '51, and "several novelties."

The parade will have band music but no torchlight, since the cheerleading squad's torches have all disappeared during previous rallies. The squad plans instead to have a jalopy motorcade in front of the parade as an escort.

Liebman said he is watching his step until the rally for fear of an incident like the one before the Yale-Brown game, when the Elis kidnapped Brown's head cheerleader and held him prisoner for four days.

Next year's head cheerleader will be announced and introduced at the rally.
