New Language Club Shows Films on Nazi Propaganda

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Triumph of the Will," a German propaganda film, and "The Nuromberg Trails," an account of German propaganda methods, will be shown by the Language Club Council Tuesday, January 10 at the New Lecture Hall, George A. Vieas '50 announced yesterday.

Carl J. Friedrich, professor of Government, will deliver an introductory lecture on Nazi methods of propaganda.

The Council is presenting these two films as part of a long-range program entitled, "A Study of Propaganda through the Film Medium."

"Triumph," one of the "classic" films of German propaganda, describes a yearly meeting of the Nazi Party at Nuremberg between 1934 to 1936, when the party was at the height of its power. Directed by Lent Rifenstahl, who also filmed the Berlin Olymples, it emphasizes and illustrates the "glorious destiny" of the party.

Lesson in Technique

An official Allied Council film, "The Nuremberg Trials" points up by the use of documentary newsreels and excerpts from "Triumph" the Nazi propaganda technique.

The Council is showing these films with the hope that they will serve as an educational bulwark against the "growing menace" of Naziism in Europe today, Vicas said.

Admission will be limited to the University and Radcliffe faculty and students.

The Language Club Council, a newly-founded executive organization of representatives of all the University language clubs, is awaiting final approval of its constitution by the Student Council.
