After a month of delays, Phillips Book Store opened today at its new location in Harvard Square. Besides a new address, the old site of the Personal Book Store, Phillips has acquired one of the most modern interiors in Harvard Square.
The new store was designed by the firm of Dawson, Oliver, and Murtagh, and features ten-foot bookshelves, accessible by ladderways and ramps. Huge photographs of the Yard and Harvard buildings, by Louis W. Baker '46, line the walls.
The modernization of Phillips follows a trend in Harvard Square started by Corcorans and Brighams, and is in line with the Square Business Men's Association's aim of making Harvard Square an up-to-date shopping center.
