Council Polls College on Dining Hall Food Today

The eating public gets a chance to air its opinion on College food at lunch and supper today when the Council releases its long-awaited, much-revised Food Poll.

The poll, consisting of 16 questions on subjects ranging from nutrition to how well pork is cooked, will be tabulated on a Social Relations IBM machine and its results will be announced by Friday.

Polling tables and booths will be in operation in all the Houses and the Union during both meals.

Charles R. Brynteson '50, Co-Chairman of the Student Welfare Committee of the Council and father of the poll, consulted Charles F. Mosteller, associate professor of Mathematical Statistics, in preparing the questions, and had them pre-tested for possible complications. The final version of the poll has questions about possible investigation of the dining rooms by experts, and asks what should be done if food prices go down.

According to Brynteson, Dean Bender has approved the poll as a fair way of questioning the College and has indicated that the Administration will use its findings in determining policy.

At its regular Monday night meeting the Council recommended that blue books be returned to students after exams; and chose William D. Weeks '49, ex-president of the group, as Council representative to the Executive Board of the Salzburg Seminar.
