Action by the Housemasters on the Council's recommendation that Houses be allowed to install basement washing machines was postponed at a meeting last night by a crush of other business. The question will be brought up again and settled in the near future.
The Council made the recommendation at its Monday night meeting, at which it heard the inside economics of the tuition rise from Provost Buck.
After the two-hour discussion with Buck, the Council voted:
1) to reject a suggestion that an accountant be hired to make an independent audit of the University's books to see if the rise were justified.
2) to recommend to the Administration that scholarship stipends be raised and funds allocated so that no student be forced to leave College through the tuition rise alone.
