Discussion Tonight May Set Off Eliot Symposium Series

Eliot House is presenting a symposium at 8:00 p.m. tonight in its dining hall which may inaugurate an elaborate series of similar discussions if enough interest is evidenced. The present plan calls for an Eliot House forum to be held once a term on a topic of current interest.

Tonight's symposium will deal in particular with the question, "Is the Novel Dying?" Harry T. Levine '33, professor of English, will lead off the discussion with a general survey of the subject, and divide the topic into three geographical areas. C. M. Bowra, Wardon of Wadham College, Oxford, will speak on the English novel.

Poggioll, Matthiessen Speak

The Continental novel will be discussed by Renato Poggioli, associate professor of Slavic and Comparative Literature, and F. O. Matthiessen, professor of History and Literature, will talk on the American novel.

The discussion is open and special permission has been granted for female attendance. Robert M. Durling '50 will be moderator.
