Ancient Art Pebble Found

Hallam L. Movius, Jr. '30, Curator of Palacolithic Archaeology at Peabody Museum, has announced the discovery of a pebble.

This pebble is as big as an Idaho potato, and one of the finest ever brought to light; A party of University geologists found it this summer while digging in eastern France.

About 25,000 years ago, some cave-men decided it had supernatural powers. They were-hunting horses that afternoon so they scratched a picture of a horse on the pebble for good luck.

Today, the pebble is scratched beyond all recognition. The surface is covered with several hundred fine lines, and scientists couldn't tell an ibex from a rhinoceros until they called in an artist.
