Clarence K. Streit, author of 'Union Now," will speak at 8 p.m. tonight in the Langdell Court Room on "The Atlantic Pact and the Union of the Free."
Streit, a journalist at Geneva in the days of the League of Nations, has long been crusading for a "more effective form" of international organization. His book, "Union Now," advocates a union of the democratic nations, with control over foreign policy, currency, international trade, and military matters delegated to a federal union.
He feels that the UN has been prevented by Russia from being an adequate bulwark of peace.
Will Discuss Pact
In tonight's lecture Streit will discuss the Atlantic Pact as the first step towards such a federation. The speech is being sponsored by a newly-formed Atlantic Union Committee, headed by Owen Roberts, former justice of the Supreme Court, Judge Robert Patterson, former Secretary of War, and Will L. Clayton, former Undersecretary of State. The Committee, a political action group. is backing a federal union similar to Streit's.
The speaker will be introduced by James A. MacLaughin, professor of Law, a member of the Committee.
