Monro Picked As Assistant to Provost Buck

John U. Munro '35, counsellor for veterans, has been appointed Assistant to the Provost of the University, Provost Paul H. Buck announced last night.

Monro will continue to serve in his present capacity as counsellor for veterans and there will be no change in the present operation of his office. His primary concern in his new position will be with undergraduate problems, particularly scholarships, student aid, and employment.

Monro has been connected with Harvard since his graduation in 1935 except for wartime service in the Navy. As an undergraduate, he was Editorial Chairman of the CRIMSON and President of the Journal, a rival newspaper which resulted from an internal policy split in the regular "breakfast table daily."

After graduation, he was on the staff of the Harvard News Office for six years and correspondent for the Boston Transcript. He also took pictures for the Alumni Bulletin.

He entered the Navy in August, 1941, as a public relations officer and was soon transferred to sea duty on the U.S.S. Enterprise. In 1946, he became the carrier's First Lieutenant.

Returning to the University in the fall of 1947, Monro was assistant to the Counsellor for Veterans, Wilbur J. Bender. In June, 1947, he became counsellor for veterans and Bender became Dean of the College.
