Annex Approves Precautions For Ballot Counting

New safeguards on Radcliffe voting methods won Radcliffe Student Council approval at the last meeting. Changes in the Student Government by-laws now provide for sealed ballot boxes, voting lists, and assurances that no student may count any part of any ballot upon which her name is listed.

Proposals for changing electoral procedures first came up before Council soon after the March Annex Student Government elections in which a mix-up, involving 97 misplaced ballots, necessitated a revote on the office of treasurer.

Under the overhauled by-laws, the Electoral Committee, consisting of the representatives of each of the four classes and the sophomore member of Student Government as chairman, shall be responsible for the supervision of all elections administered by Student, Government.

Ballots shall be counted by at least four students, preferably members of the Electoral Committee or any other members of the Association whom the Electoral Chairman shall appoint. Voting shall be conducted on two successive days, both in Agassiz and in each dormitory.

Each student's name shall be checked on the voting lists when she receives a ballot, and again when she casts her vote. The place of counting remains at the discretion of the Electoral Chairman.
