Law School alumni have already contributed $825,000 to the School's campaign for $2,500,000. The fund drive began Thursday night with a dinner at the Harvard Club of Boston.
Announcement of the first contributions to the drive was made by John B. Marsh '08, chairman of the nationwide fund. The school found it necessary to go to its alumni for support, Marsh explained, because endowments have not kept pace with constantly expanding needs.
He explained that about 75 percent of the Law School's expenditures had been met from tuition, while 25 percent has come from private gifts.
Money raised in the drive will be used to build dormitories and recreational facilities, and to supply special funds for research, library, and scholarships for Law School students.
Associate Justice Robert H. Jackson of the Supreme Court was among the speakers at Thursday night's dinner.
