Police began searching last night for Gene Desseau '53, who walked out of Stillman Infirmary Sunday morning and has not been seen since.
Dessean was staying in Stillman at nights "to get some rest," according to his friends. They said doctors had placed him there Friday after he had been depressed for several weeks, unwilling to study or attend classes.
Dessean went to the Infirmary Friday and Saturday nights. On Sunday he told doctors he wanted to study, and left the building with a paper bound German text and some toilet articles. Neither police, doctors, nor deans have been able to locate him since.
Quiet
The 18-year-old freshman is a scholarship student from Tacoma, Washington, and had "quite good" marks at mid-years. Despite that, University police said he was continually worried about finances and final exams.
His friends described Desseau as a "nice guy" but very quiet. They said that since October he had been staying away from his Hollis Hall room every night, not returning until early in the morning.
The University has put the whole matter in the hands of police, who last night telegraphed Desseau's description throughout New England.
