54 Start Touch Football Season


The "biggest freshman touch football season over" got started yesterday and last Thursday, with all 16 teams seeing action.

In the National League openers yesterday, Thayer North beat Straus south, 6 to 0; and Weld picked up a 1 to 0 forfeit win over Mower. Hollis tied Matthews South, and Wigglesworth West tied Massachusetts, by identical 6 to 6 scores.

Tom Cattell scored both touchdowns as Holworthy whipped Thayer South, 12 to 0 in an American League contest on Thursday. Meanwhile, Matthews North star Anthony Van Wye passed and ran his team to an 18 to 6 win over Wigglesworth East. In other American League games, Stoughton topped Lionel, 15 to 0, and Straus North dumped Thayer Middle, 12 to 2.
