The Harvard Lampoon Corporation will be arraigned today before Middlesex Court Judge Thomas Dowd on a charge of "selling and distributing obscene pamphlets," following last week's grand jury indictment.
Joseph A. Deguglielmo '29, legal counsel for the magazine, said yesterday that he has not yet decided whether he will instruct the Lampoon to plead guilty, not guilty, or nolo contendere.
If the plea is guilty or nolo contendere, Deguglielmo said the matter will be settled this week; the penalty would rest with Judge Dowd.
If the magazine pleads not guilty, however, the case will be bound over to the Superior Court session. Degugliemo said that if he pleads thus, he will ask that the case be delayed until after Christmas vacation. The Lampoon faces a posible maximum fine of $1,000 if found guilty.
The case was reviewed by Middlesex District Attorney George A. Thompson a week ago preceding grand jury action.
On Thompson's request the grand jury indicted the Lampoon Friday. The Lampoon's parody of a mid-western college humor magazine was termed "raw" by Thompson.
