Bunnies Edge Dudley Five To Open House Basketball

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Leverett and Dudley opened the House basketball season yesterday afternoon in a see-saw match which the Bunnies finally won, 35 to 33. The game was played in the Indoor Athletic Building.

Actually, the game was won on foul shots, Leverett sinking 11 this way, and the Commuters, five. Most of the personal fouls, the officials agreed, were not intentional but a result of too little practice together as a team.

Neither team led by more than four points at any time throughout the game. Leverett was ahead; 14 to 13, at the half, but Dudley threatened several times during the last period.

High scorer for the Commuters was Bob Hoffman, left guard, with 11 points to his credit. Leverett's high man, tallying ten of the Bunny goals, was center Ned Maroni.

Both teams played remarkably fast ball for their first time against real opposition, but there were no very spectacular long shots. Dudley's defense was consistently strong, but not quite tight enough for Leverett's weaving offensive plays.

Leverett's next game will be with Dunster, in the Indoor Athletic Building, at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

The lineup:

Leverett: Low Chizer, lf, Julie Garolich, rf, Paul Holder, rg, Ned Maroni, c, Joe Shaw, lg. Substitutes: Connie Clark, Howard Finney, Dick Meyers, Bucky O'Connor, Dick Reynolds.

Dudley: Ben Akillian, rg, Bill Corey, lf, Bob Hoffman, lg, George Humphroy, o, Joe Sobel, rf. Substitutes: Bob Conte, Joe Hennessey, Herby Lewis, Jack McKenna, Stan Miller.
