Eight American League teams played last night as the first Yard basketball tournament passed the half-way mark. Thayer South lost its first game to Holworthy, 18 to 14, as both teams tied for second with one less apiece behind undefeated Matthews North.

In other actions, Stoughton, paced by Bob Walser's 16 points, beat Thayer Middle, 81 to 16; Lionel trimmed Wiggles-worth East, 24 to 23, for its first win; and Straus North trounced Weld South, 11 to 1.
