A University-employed unit of the American Federation of Labor may decide May 5 to break away from the AF of L and align itself with the independent University union, HUERA head Daniel G. Mulvihill announced yesterday.

A majority of the members of the Cooks and Pastry Cooks Association, AF of L Local 185, filed a petition with the Labor Relations Commission in Boston about a week ago.

The petition stated their desire to leave the national union in favor of HUERA. Representatives of both unions and the University went before the Labor Relations Commission April 4.

It was ruled at the hearing, that the question be decided by a "consent election" in the local, set for May G. Mulvihill said the switch would be "agreeable to both sides," but that his union "does not try to encourage units of other unions to join ours."
