The Republican New England College Conference that met this weekend in Littauer condemned as "indiscriminant" Senator Joseph R. McCarthy's (R-Wis.) recent attacks on State Department officials. The conference passed a resolution saying: "We feel that these attacks have harmed the nation and the Republican Party."
Immediate de facto recognition of Communist China, and endorsement of the "general provisions" of the Taft-Hartley Act, were among the many other resolutions passed at the conference.
On Saturday the delegates from 18 New England Colleges heard Representative Chester E. Merrow (R.N.H.) call the policy of the Economic Cooperation Administration "not tough enough." The congressman said that the U.S. should "insist" on the "reduction of trade restrictions" within countries receiving U.S. aid.
