Socially-conscious Bruce P. McGhie '54 had a hard time last Tuesday because of his altruistic feelings.

Two friends told him at lunch that the great Canadian forest fires, which have caused smoke clouds over Boston and much of the Eastern seaboard for a week, were approaching nearby Chelsea. Firefighters were neded, they said, and were being paid handsomely.

Anxioulsy, McGhie rushed down to the Boston Capital. Clerks apparently played along with the ruse, and the freshman ran in turn to the offices of the National Guard, Public Lands, after calling newspapers and radio stations, McGhie tried the Chelsea fire department.

"Chelsea's last major fire was in 1912," said the chief, "when the whole town burned down."
