Arthur Fiedler, head of the Boston Pops Orchestra, told a small coffee hour audience yesterday that the idea of using classical themes in popular songs is a good one. He added that it gives beautiful music to those who might otherwise never hear it.
Fiedler also said he admires conductors who have had experience as members of an orchestra. He feels they got to know what a playing musician goes through trying to please the ear of a conductor.
He emphasized that it is important for conductors to know the possibilities of each man and instrument in his orchestra.
