Short-handed Soccer Team Travels to Face Springfield

Crimson Slight Favorites Despite Injuries; Florin, Berger, Beer Will Not Play Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Although half of its halfback line is crippled, the varsity soccer team should have a little better than even chance today against winless Springfield College. The Crimson booters leave Cambridge at 8 a.m. and arrive in Springfield in time for the 12 noon game on the college's Brock-Affleck Filed.

Harvard will be shooting for its second victory against one tie and one defeat, but it will be without the services of center half Bernard Florin, second right half Latsi Berger, and substitute right inside Johnny Beer. In addition to these, right half Larry Leonard is all taped up after injuring his ankle in the Williams game, and reserve center forward Ed Seaga has a charley horse. Both should see limited action. Florin has an infected toe, Beer the remains of a stomach disorder, and Berger a twisted knee.

Humphrey Doormann, converted fullback; or one of the two sophomores, Bobby-Dean or Jack Whiting, will play left halfback, and regular left half Bob Harding will move over into Florin's old center half position.

Frank Davies has broken into the starting lineup in the center forward slot, after playing a scrappy game last Saturday at left inside. Munro has been working all week on the Crimson's attack, which so far has been passing well, but has been handicapped by the lack of a finisher with a hard shot. Davies may fill the bill. Thursday's practice was especially good, and Munro feels that if they play that well the booters will do well.

Captain Dick Craven will be goalie, with Bob Sobel and Charlie Ufford full backs Berk Johnson. Dana Getchell, George Baker, and Win Knowlton finish out the forward line.

Springfield has yet to score this season, having been shut out twice, by Wesleyan and Cortland State Teachers.
