The junior varsity football team made dishearteningly easy progress against the varsity's first defensive squad yesterday in the scrimmage which wound up the afternoon practice. Outstanding runners for the jayvees were sophomore Larry Boles and Howie Finney.
While the jayvees were running Columbia T-formation plays against the defensive squads, the first-string offensive unit was also scrimmaging. Jerry Blitz, who has been on the third and fourth backfields since the beginning of the season, ran at the first-string fullback slot and several times broke away for long gains.
John Culver, who in practice has been doing most of the work at first-string offensive fullback, was out yesterday with a sprained shoulder and hand, but Coach Lloyd Jordan expects him to be ready for the Columbia game.
