$4,000 Bail Releases Both Check Forgers

Thomas R. Bergin '54 and Murdock Whitney '54, arrested Wednesday after trying to pass a bad check, pleaded innocent and were released on $2,000 bail each yesterday. Bail was posted by Bergin's father. Trial for forgery and passing bad checks will be held Novermber 29.

The two undergraduates were taken into custody after a cashier at the Stop and Shop market refused to cash one of their bad checks. When the two students ran hurriedly out, the cashier became suspicious and telephoned police who apprehended them at another food market.
