Freshman Sextet Beats Malden, 6-1

After a tight, scoreless first period, the freshman hockey team proved itself superior to a Malden Catholic sextet by whipping it 6 to 1 yesterday afternoon in the Arena. The Yardlings looked fast and strong in their first game of the season.

Coach Myles Huntington used a two platoon system and both squads were equally good. Huntington, who planned to alternate four men at goal, also found a starter in Bob Hathaway, who handled himself well under pressure.

Doug Manchester at center scored the first Crimson goal early in the second period on an assist by Neddie Bliss. Frank Mahoney, one of the team's standouts, followed with another with four and a half minutes gone in the period. Five minutes later Manchester scored again on an assist from right wing Scott Coolidge.

Co-captain Dick Grant tallied for Malden after six minutes of play in the final period, but the freshmen bounced back with three more quick goals by left wing Bliss, another by Manchester, and the third by Mahoney on an assist by center Bob Marsolais.
