Dragging a two-game losing streak behind it, the varsity hockey team will be trying for its first Pentagonal League win this morning when it meets Dartmouth on Hanover's Davis Rink in the feature attraction of the Big Green's Winter Carnival.
After compiling a nine and three first-term record, Cooney Weiland's tired skaters lost first to Boston College, 10 to 9, then to Northeastern, 5 to 1. The Crimson had previously beaten both teams.
Dartmouth has had post-exam woos, too. B.U. pounded the Indians, 7 to 0, Thursday, Dartmouth's second loss in nine games, including an upset 2 to 2 tie with Yale. But Coach Eddie Jeremiah is generally pleased with his team's progress.
Comparative scores, for what they are worth, give the Crimson a slight edge. Dartmouth beat Northeastern, 3 to 2, and lost to B.C., 5 to 4. But where the Crimson buried Williams, 21 to 4, Dartmouth could surpass the Ephmen by only 7 to 2.
Nevertheless, Jeremiah calls the game a tossup. "This isn't one of my most outstanding teams," he says, "but it does hustle and plays with exceptional aggressivess."
Captain Cliff Harrison, first line center and team-leading scorer, draws special praise from Jeremiah: "a superb stickhandler and passer; skates like a human dynamo." Bill Dow and junior George Scully flank Harrison.
