The fencing team met unexpected resistance in its first meet of the season Saturday at the Blockhouse, but succeeded in defeating Wesleyan, 16 to 11. Eric Sollee and Chris Martin both won all their bouts in the foils to give the Crimson a decided advantage.

Captain Win Overholser and George McNair each won two in the epee, an event in which Bob Ditmar of Wesleyan swept his bouts. Sophomore Harry Ziel went undefeated in the saber for Rene Peroy's team. The Crimson won the foil, seven to two, the saber, five to four, and lost the epee, four to five.

The freshman fencing team had little trouble beating B.U. Saturday, 19 to 8, in its opening match.

Bob Marsetta, John Martindale, and Warren Stone swept the sabre bouts, while Dick Elwell and Ivan Chermayoff won in the foil and epee respectively.

Marsetta, Martindale, Stone, Elwell, and Chermayoff each gained three wins in the freshmen's one-sided triumph.
