Berman Runs 3rd In Hollis 600; Eli Relay Squad Wins

Ronnie Berman ran in the show position again Saturday night at Boston Garden, this time in the Hollis 600 of the annual B.A.A. Games. Harvard competitors were relatively unsuccessful against the fast competition, with the mile relay squad trailing for the first time this season to Yale's 3:23.8 time.

When winner George Rhoden forced Cornell's Charley Moore to break stride on the final turn, Berman passed Moore, Hugo Malocco, and the rapidly fading Irv Howe of Boston College. Rhoden won by a comfortable four yards in 1:12.5, while Maiocco came up fast to edge out Berman.

Fast quarters by Elis Dick MacDougall, who stayed with Ed Grutzner, and Pete White gave anchor-man Rollie Sultze a 20 yard lead of which Berman could only make up six or seven yards.

The freshman mile relay lost to North-eastern while finishing ahead of Holy Cross and Brown, and the varsity two-mile relayers were fourth to Syracuse, Providence, and M.I.T. Hurdler Charlie Durakis qualiffied for the finals, but ran behind a record-breaking field.
