Salzburg Will Continue Despite War Situation

University-Operated Seminar, 70 Miles from Russian Zone, Remains Open for Europeans

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In spite of the threatening world situation, the Harvard-sponsored Austrian school in American studies, Salzburg Seminar, will continue operations this year, Seminar officials reported last night.

The Seminar is located only 70 miles from the Russian zone of Austria, and in addition, its activity is such that it absolutely relies on a modicum of European peace in order to remain open.

Students at the Seminar come from every European country outside of the Russian domain. Teachers and student administrators all come from the United States.

Popularity Still Great

Seminar leaders report that there has been no decrease in the demand by young European intellectuals and professional men for admission to the school. Some of the students, however, come to Salzburg at great risk. Those from Berlin, Vienna, and Finland are especially apprehensive, since all of their activities are watched by their Communist neighbors in their native countries.

Nor is it any harder now to get American college professors to journey to Salzburg for the purpose of teaching the Europeans about the United States. Most of those planning to go have said they will make the trip in any situation short of all-out war.

Some of the Harvard student administrators will possibly be barred from the trip this summer by the draft, though they are hoping to be deferred for the extra eight weeks necessary for the summer session.
