John White, the senior who never played organized hockey before this year, won a first-string defenseman's position on the Pentagonal League all-star team, announced yesterday at the American Hockey Coaches Association convention.

Captain-elect Dusty Burke, another defenseman, was named to the second team as was high-scorer Joe Kittredge. Sophomore Walt Greeley was voted 'a spare. Amory Hubbard tied with Princeton's Hank Bothfeld as outstanding sophomore. Hubbard, Captain Low Preston, and Bob DiBlasio won honorable mention for the all-star team.

White, who started the season at center and moved to defense for the final eight games, also earned "most improved player" honors. Fifteen coaches, newspapermen, officials, and radio announcers participated in the voting.

League champion Brown placed the most men-six-on the squad, but Dartmouth's Cliff Harrison was named most valuable player and outstanding forward. The Big Green's John Grocutt was picked best defenseman and Dartmouth coach Eddie Jeremiah top coach.

Second team: Cruickshank, Yale (29), g.; Jones, Yale (24), and Burke, Harvard (23); d.; Kittredge, Harvard (36), McNamara, Yale (35), and Malo, Brown (30), f.

Spares: Shay, Yale (28), Bothfeld, Princeton (21), Murphy, Brown (19), Greeley, Harvard (16), and Priestly, Brown (16).
