Richart Will Coach Gold Team This Spring; Golfers Head South April 9

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An engineer will run the golf team this spring. Frank E. Richart, Jr., assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been named to the coaching spot by Director of Athletics William J. Bingham '16. He replaces varsity basketball coach Norm Shepard who is now assisting at spring football practice.

Richart accepted the job without payment in order to retain his amateur standing. He was a medalist in both the Boston and Massachusetts amateur tourneys last year. At the University of Illinois, from which he graduated in 1946, he was number one man on the golf team. He has taught at Harvard for three years.

The golf team will make its annual spring vacation excursion to White Sulphur Springs, Virginia, to play two matches this year. A six-man team will meet Washington and Lee and Ohio University on April 9 to 10.

Eliminations for both the freshmen and varsity teams will begin soon after vacation on a Dedham course. The season will end with a league match at Yale on May 14.
