HDC Will Present Shakespeare Comedy for Spring Production

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be the Dramatic Club's spring production, president Warren Brody '52 announced last night. The play will be produced in the Fogg Museum Courtyard during Jubilee Weekend, May 4 and 5, and the week following.

Sherman H. Hawkins '51 and Edmund A. Levy '51 will direct the play. Alan C. Purves will be the producer. Tryouts for the cast will probably be held the first week following spring vacation.

Last year the H.D.C., produced Garcia Lorca's "The Shoemaker's Prodigious Wife" in the "Court theatre," the alley opposite Dudley Hall. Brody said such an outdoor production makes for a relaxed audience.

This year, hanging lanterns, and rugs on the ground will help give this relaxed atmosphere, director Hawkins said. The audience will be asked to move to different parts of the courtyard during the play, since the settings will be fixed. The Old Vic set a precedent in giving the play in a park and using the natural landscapes for settings.
