Lowell Musical Society to Present Lully's 'Amadis' on Next Weekend

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Lowell House Musical Society will present Jean Baptiste Lully's Amadis de Gaulle as its eighth full-length opera in the Lowell House dining-room March 15, 16, and 17. The Society has this year added a third performance after selling out two in previous years.

John L. Patterson '51 will sing the title role of Amadis opposite Marguerite Willauer of the Boston Symphony. William Flavin will sing Florestan and Peter Coyne '51 will sing Arcalus. Adele Milhender and Anne English will sing Arcabonne and Corisande. The opera's plot, a "lyrical tragedy" on the ideals of courtly love, has been cut and modernized.

Nathaniel Merrill of the New England Conservatory will direct the opera, and the orchestra, composed of members of the Pierian Sodality, will be conducted by Malcolm H. Holmes '28.
