Varsity Lacrosse Plays Springfield; Freshman Ten Meets Tabor Away

Lacrosse coach Bruce Munro has more than a sentimental reason for wishing to trounce his alma mater, Springfield College, this afternoon on the latter's home field. The Gymnasts will offer the first serious competition the Crimson has met since the spring trip, and a win will strengthen the local ten's bid for top ranking in the New England League.

Most of Crimson's recent opposition has shown more enthusiasm than skill, and it has been difficult to determine how well the varsity will stand up against perennial powers like Yale, Dartmouth, and Williams. Today's game should offer some indication, since Yale walloped the Gymnasts, 12 to 6.

Midfielder Bill Graham reported to the Crimson squad this week after a thesis stint, and Munro will start the lanky senior in the second midfield in place of Ripper Lynch, who will be taking a Law School exam.

The Yardling lacrosse team hopes to improve its three win, two loss record when it meets Tabor Academy in Marion, Connecticut, at 2 p.m. today. Tabor usually has a fairly skillful and rough squad. Last year the freshmen just edged the prep-schoolers, 8 to 7.

Although the Yardlings still lack depth, Coach Bob Pickett has developed a smooth first midfield in Phil Waring, Chuck Edwards, and Tod Goodwin.

Varsity lineups:

HARVARD: Attack: Plissner, Yost, and Hudner (C); Midfields: Post, Waring, and Huebsch; Sawyer Graham, and Brooke; Thayer, Julian, and Wood; Defense: Coburn, Byrne, and Spence; Goal: Clark.
