Crimson skippers Charlie Hoppin and Frank Scully this weekend topped M.I.T., 152 to 149, to win the New England Dinghy Championship. The nine race series was sailed on the Thames River.
Hoppin, a sophomore, turned in the best performance of the regatta. He took three first places and four seconds, and beat M.I.T.'s Howie Fawcett, new England's number one skipper last fall, by one point. Scully won three races.
Freshman sailors yesterday gained second place in the New England Freshman Sailing Championship, won by M.I.T. Sixteen colleges competed in the regatta, which was held at M.I.T.
