Judge Arthur P. Stone '93 yesterday applied for retirement from his position as presiding justice of East Cambridge Court. His resignation came while hearings, instituted by Governor Dever, were in progress to determine whether the 81 year old judge should be, forced to quit.

He had been under fire recently for his releasing of a sex offender; the Governor's inquiry had been started on a recommendation of the administrative committee of the district courts.
