Varsity Nine Meets B.C. Thursday, Travels to Williamstown Saturday

With the exam period diamond drought at an end, the varsity baseball team will romp on Soldiers Field grass again at 3 p.m. Thursday with Boston College as an opponent and then move west to meet Williams at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Crimson's smooth-working first string catcher, Charlie Walsh, who suffered a broken hand in the Columbia game a month ago, has gotten well faster than expected and may be ready to go behind the plate against the Eagles. While Chuck Wade has been substituting effectively for Walsh Harvard has won four out of its last six contests (record now six and six) since the loss of one of its better players.

Stuffy McInnis will start ace righthander Bob Ward against B.C. and put either John Donelan or Rufe Webb against the Ephmen. By so juggling his minute mound staff, McInnis will have Ward ready to go against Yale in New Haven next Monday.

Seventh Place

The first Yale game will settle seventh place in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League; the return match in Cambridge will not effect the standings.

The Eagles have three high-averaged power hitters in leadoff batter Len Ceglarski, first baseman Bob Manning, and catcher Mike Roarke, and one of the top pitchers of the east in Bill Scholz. Scholz a righthander, won six straight before losing to the camp LeJoune Marines and dropping a 7 to 5 game yesterday to Holy Cross ace Dick Bogdan. Eagle coach John Temple may be willing to start Scholz again after only two days' rest.

Willaims has had a successful season, its eight-and-five record including a four victory sweep in Little Three competition (Amherst-Wesleyan-Williams).

Coach Bobby Coombs will have either righthander Mike Puffer (4-2) or southpaw John Beard (4-0) ready for the Crimson. Batters Bill Callaghan, Pete Connolly, and Harry Sheehy all have averages over 350.
