Stoughton Wins 3 To Lead Softball

Summer softball swung into full gear this week as four games were played, each providing unusual thrills and excitement. Monday Stoughton continued its rampage through the league, boating Thayer 22-1, as Art Davis pitched a brilliant no-hitter.

Thayer got its lone run on two walks and two errors, but in the same inning Stoughton pulled off a triple play which started with a line drive to the pitcher.

The Grad School edged Holworthy the same day, with Turnor of the grads besting his mound opponent, Berry, 2-1, in a fine pitcher's duel.

On Tuesday, Linden won its first game by forfeit, but was deprived of the victory the next day when the ROTC unit apathetically dropped out of the league. The chemists from Mallinckrodt will take their place on the schedule.

On Wednesday, Stoughton staved off a late-game rally by Mallinckrodt to win their third straight game, 11-9, and strengthen its grip on first place in the league. Also on Wednesday, Thayer came from behind with three runs in the last inning to hand Holworthy its second one-run defeat, 9-8.
