Kutcher Will Talk on Loyalty Board Ordeal

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

James Kutcher, a Purple Heart winner in World War II, will speak on "My Experiences with the Loyalty Program" tonight in the Leverett House Junior Common Room at 8.

Kutcher, who lost both his legs in Italy, was given a job with the Veteran's Administration as a clerk in 1948 he was dismissed by their Loyalty Board because of membership in the Socialist Workers Party. Kutcher challenged the right to take away a job because of political affiliations, but lost his job, anyway.

The Loyalty Board based its move on the presidential order denying federal employment to anyone belonging to a "subversive" organization. Kutcher has filed suit for reinstatement, and this appeal should reach the Supreme Court.

He is backed by the American Civil Liberties Union.
