Kefauver Unsure Of Pres. Chances

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Senator Estes Kefauver (D-Tenn.) disclosed that he would not make a final decision until February about competing or not for the Democratic presidential nomination, when he visited Cambridge last Thursday.

This announcement came at a press conference held at the Faculty Club that afternoon. The Senator also spoke privately with President Conant and a few members of the faculty, after addressing the Nieman Fellows. The trip was nonpolitical, according to Kefauver.

He said at the conference, "I'm not running, but I am not running away from the opportunity of running." What he is doing, Kefauver disclosed, is "appraising the situation."

The Senator went on to state that he was not interested in the Democratic nomination for vice-president. As for President Truman, Kefauver said, "Those who have gone to see him have gone away with the impression that he would not be a candidate again."
