Crimson Harriers Halt U. of Mass. Streak, 24 to 33

Crimson varsity harriers humbled the University of Massachusetts cross country team, 24 to 33, yesterday afternoon at Franklin Park to cut short the ten consecutive dual meet victories of the UMass men. The Yardlings lost, 24-35, to the UMass freshmen.

Harry Aldrich, star runner of the squad that holds the Connecticut and Yankee Conference championships, won the race with a 22:12 time over the 4.2 mile course. But the Crimson dominated the scoring after that, with Hubie Maguire second in 22:25 and Hal Gerry third right behind him. Hank Knapp and George Gooding of UMass took fourth and seventh, but Crimson Captain Emil San Soucie, Marshall Childs, Bruce Phillips and Frank Nahigian were the deciding men with fifth, sixth, eighth, and ninth places respectively.

Wills Wins

Although the Yardlings lost the meet, Al Wills, the Crimson's outstanding freshman, took first place. The freshmen will elect their captain next Tuesday.

For the varsity, this was the second consecutive meet win, having taken Boston University and Northeastern in an upset victory last week. It was the Yardlings' first loss.
