Durstine Shows Up at Logan; No 'Disappearance,' He Claims

Roy S. Durstine, Jr. '56, the cause of a nine-state police alarm when he left "goodbye" notes Wednesday, turned up at Boston's Logan Airport yesterday morning and told state police that he never had "disappeared" in the first place.

Durstine left four notes in Claverly Hall saying he had "made a mess of things." The first news of his where-abouts came early Thursday morning when his father received a telephone call from a friend of his son's saying that he would get in touch with his parents.

According to state police, the freshman went to Maine, and arrived in Boston yesterday morning. He tried to buy a ticket to New York with a check. Airline officials called in state police.

Durstine told police he was not "missing," but was merely on his way to his parents' apartment in New York. Police permitted Durstine to leave Boston for New York.
