Anna Freud, now giving a series of undergraduate lectures on child psychology, will assume a position as consultant to the School of Education's "Laboratory of Human Development" tomorrow.
Miss Freud has been working with English displaced children since the beginning of World War II. Under a special grant, she studied the effects of parental separation on 80 British children and directed psycho-therapy. The "Laboratory of Human Development" is organized to observe the problems and growth of pre-school children.
Psycho-analysis of Children
Before her second lecture yesterday, Miss Freud stated that she would "give an introduction to the psycho-analytic development of children with special reference to the problems of parents." She said she will try to make her lectures both "simple enough for those who have had no previous learning" on the subject and "advanced enough for those who have already had an introduction."
Miss Freud visited the United States and the University only once before, in 1950--then, only for a few days. While in Massachusetts she received an honorary degree at Clark University on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. Forty years before, her father, Sigmund Freud, introduced psychiatry to America at a Clark lecture.
