Quick Action of Senior Rescues Bleeding Man

A senior saved a seriously injured man from possible death yesterday afternoon.

Philip M. Cronin '53, while passing through Harvard Square yesterday, saw a man lying in the middle of the street, covered with blood. A small crowd had gathered but no one had taken any action to stop the bleeding.

After hurrying over to the man, Cronin noted a laceration of the skull and applied arterial pressure to stop the bleeding. A few seconds later, a traffic policeman arrived and called an ambulance.

Cambridge Chief of police Patrick F. Ready, who arrived after the ambulance, praised Cronin for saving the man's life.

The injured man was taken to the Cambridge City Hospital, where he was treated for lacerations, shock, and loss of blood. Police say he stumbled and fell on his head while crossing the street Hospital authorities, who released the man late last night, refused to disclose his identity.
