The University will catch a glimpse of one Presidential candidate and an earful from another today. Republican nominee Dwight D. Eisenhower will drive through Harvard Square at 1:30 p.m. At 4 p.m., Progressive Party candidate Vincent Hallinan will speak in New Lecture Hall. Hallinan's talk will be sponsored by the newly-revived Young Progressives.
The Eisenhower caravan will come down Massachusetts Avenue from Central Square after giving a major speech at the Boston Common. HYRC President Edward R. Schroeder '53 says his group has plans for a rousing reception for the General in the Square. HYRC members will also distribute campaign literature at the Common speech. Eisenhower's parade through Cambridge is part of his week-long tour of New England.
Still without advisors, the YP's are sponsoring Hallinan as their first program of the year. Dean Watson has said he would not hold the lack of advisors against the club "if it acts in good faith" to get advisors later.
Hallinan, a California lawyer, was nominated this summer while serving a jail sentence for contempt of court, due to his conduct in the Harry Bridges deportation case.
