Brattle Will Show Foreign Movies; Haliday Gets Anonymous Phone Call

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Foreign movies will replace legitimate stage some time in January as the Brattle's fare, Bryant Haliday announced yesterday.

Haliday, who was general manager of Brattle, said his decision to keep the theatre for foreign films had produced an anonymous phone call, warning him not to keep the building.

"Someone called up," said Haliday, "and asked me whether I was going to sell the theatre. I answered no, and the voice said, 'Well, you better, if you know what's good for you.'

"But I've been living in Cambridge for a long time," he commented, "and I'm not worried."

Haliday and Cyrus Harvey, Jr., a Boston business man, bought the theatre from its stockholders and plan to remodel it during December.

They intend to install a Trans-Lux projection unit with wide angle cameras and a translucent screen, which can easily be removed. According to Haliday, this will allow them to change the movie house back into a theatre during the summer season.
