Arithmetic analysis is sometimes fallible, but then so is any type of prediction when it comes to Crimson hockey games.
Tonight's game, however, looks like a shoo-in from any angle. The Crimson, which tied B.U. last weekend, and played better than the Terriers in the process, takes on a Tufts squad that lost to B.U. 14 to 1 in one of its three games.
Game-time is 9 p.m. at the Arena. The contest is the last the Crimson will play before the holidays, when it moves into a round-robin tourney against B.C., B.U., and Northeastern starting December 26.
Crimson players, though berating themselves for opportunities they thought they missed in the B.U. game, are set to take this one pretty much in stride.
In fact, Cooney Weiland has been taking it easy on the boys; only one practice has been held since Saturday's game, and the team didn't even hit the ice yesterday.
The Jumbos do, however, have a few things to be said for them. For instance, they are just about the highest scoring club around, for after dropping one to B.U., they slammed M.I.T. 13 to 2, and also ran up the score against Providence College.
Nobody is quite sure what all that proves, except that M.I.T. is probably terrible. Nevertheless, Tufts captain and first line center Ed Nolan is leading the New England league with nine goals and nine assists.
Against B.U., the Jumbos held down the score for one period, then fell apart; that may well be the way the game goes tonight. The team's second highest scorer, by the way, is first line wing Jerry Mahoney, twin brother of the Crimson's third line stalwart, Frank Mahoney.
Usual Group
Weiland will go along with his usual line-up, except in the goal, where sophomore Carl Hathaway will get his first varsity experience. Brad Richardson, first team goalie, will not even dress for the game.
The first team, which opens the game, has Captain Walt Greeley, Amory Hubbard, and George Chase on the line, Jeff Coolidge and Ed Mrkonich on defense.
