Jury Hears Spivey Give Fix Testimony

All-America basketball player Bill Spivey of last year's University of Kentucky team appeared before the New York Grand Jury yesterday to testify on the fixing of Madison Square Garden games. It was emphasized that Spivey was not wanted in connection with the probe, but had volunteered to give information.

Confessions were secured Tuesday from three former Kentucky stars in the scandals. The three, Dale Barnstable, captain of the 1949-50 team, and All-America selections Ralph Board and Alex Groza, face prison terms of up to three years for accepting bribes to throw a game to Loyala in the 1949 National Invitation Tournament. Their sentence will be given on March 28. Among the New York gamblers who paid them is Saul Feinberg, former Law School student, who is now awaiting sentence.

The District Attorney's office charged Walter Hirsch and James Line, also former Kentucky players, with shaving points against St. John's in 1949.
